What did we do?
Today we got separated in groups when we entered the portable. Each group had to discuss a question about the movie we watched on Thursday, "The First Knight". On the sheet she gave us that day, there were quotes and questions concerning them. After we returned to our original seats, Ms.Lees gave us another sheet on review of oral language.
Why we did it?
This was to improve our oral communicating skills and to improve our skill of working in a group. If the group does not agree with each other, we can try try to convince each other, developing persuasive skills. the sheet she gave us would actually let us look back and see if we actually contributed to the discussion instead of leaving other people to do it by themselves.
Connections and reflections
Working in a group helps us in the future when we wok on projects with other people during employment. Actually working on the project might keep you from being fired. Persuasive skills will be needed if your a lawyer trying to prove people innocence or guilty. It helps you if your in a debate team, trying to convince the jury that your point is better or right. It helps in politics if you are a politician trying to get people to work for you, or even convincing your parents that you need a better allowance!
Homework and tips
I don't think we have homework today. If you are not done note taking, they were due today so get your but to flex!
Upcoming events
Pancake breakfast on Friday and also early dismissal.
Roger is posting tomorrow.

What did we do?
We watched this movie which was about "The King Arthur" while watching this movie we took our notes and answered some questions. We didn't finish the movie , we were out of time. We might watch it on the Lunch or Class.
Why?
To learn about background information about Middle ages and in the past. (Their clothing, What they do to entertain themselves, What they eat, basically it was to learn about their life styles.)
Homework
-Note taking due on Monday
-Spelling Bee Tomorrow
Tuesday, December 6, 2011
Today (December 6th, 2011), we watched a video on the Middle Ages. The video described everything on the middle ages. While we were watching that video we had to take notes and saying the main idea, and the details describing the main idea. Part of the video described "The Black Death", which was a deadly disease which caused almost everyone to die in Europe. The "Black Death" started in the year 1348 and ended in the year of 1350. It took around 150 years for Europe's population to recover. Today we also studied Canspell. When the teacher would give you a word and you would have to spell it.

What did we do?
Today we worked on our note making which is page 9-20(outlining), 21-29(mapping), and 30-36(Cornell note taking)
Why we did it?
We worked on it because it was good practice for note making and to get use to taking notes.
Connections
We could use this skill for taking notes in other subjects like science and math. The notes would help us on what to study for tests.
Homework and Tips
No homework. There is a canspell test on Friday, be sure to practice! Go to flex tomorrow morning if you still have not finished the test. Roger is posting tomorrow.

What did we do?
We learned how to take notes well and watched video about it. Ms. Lees taught people who don’t know how to calculate times when you want to find a time for other place. We took our notes for the text book. Some of us wrote paragraphs because they needed to catch up. Mark did all of his work and he had nothing to do so he helped other people.
Why?
We learned how to take notes better because we got this homework which is about “taking note” Some of us learned about time zones and how to calculate time because we have test geography tomorrow.
My connection/reflection.
I can use this “writing note skill” for other subjects too.
Homework
- Paragraphs if you are not done.
- Study for Geography homework

November 29th / 2011x
Today, the teacher checked our homework first. The homework we received was the persuasive paragraph. the teacher gave us a booklet on Q A R and we had to read some things on that booklet and after we were done reading it, we would have to answers some questions on that. The teacher didn't go there any conferences today.

What did we do?
Persuasive paragraphs:
We had to highlight the topic sentence and key words of the sample paragraph. We had to chose one of the topics for exercise one and for exercise 2 we had to chose one of the topics or chose something from our heart maps.
Note making booklet:
Ms.Lees handed out a booklets on note making. You had to read through the paragraph on the first page and highlight the main points.
She also started conferencing today and handed out a sheet to explain what to do on the spelling bee.
Why we did it?
We did the persuasive paragraphs so that we understand what to do when we write persuasive paragraphs. She gave us the booklet on note making so that we would understand how to take notes and not make mistakes and so we understand how to find the main point. We got the sheet on the spelling bee so we would understand the rules on the spelling bee when we do it.
Connections and reflections:
Later on in the future we would be writing essays and writing paragraphs is very similar because in a essay you need a topic paragraph, two or three paragraphs on points, and a concluding paragraph. Persuasive paragraphs can also be helpful during debates and maybe if you are a politician convincing people to vote for you. Note making would be needed when we write down notes to study for science, social study, math tests and more. Spelling bees help develop experience talking in front of people.
Homework and tips:
Persuasive paragraph, exercise 1 and 2 for the note making booklet, and practicing for the spelling bee.
There is a geography test on Friday, so study hard!
Roger would be posting for tomorrow.

Hello, today we did the Explanitory paragraph and also we did some catchup from yesterday, we had to also do a outline for every paragraph we did
Why?
It helps us understand the concepts of writing different types of paragraphs. I find it very enjoying writing these paragraphs, they seemed a bit hard in the begining because I wasn't that strong in grammar, but after I think I understand the different ways of writing a paragraph like a narrative, and also a descriptive paragraph. I hope improving later in the year!
My connection/reflection
I think these paragraph work are very useful, they can probally help us in the future because I can probally use my skills for the future to get a job with paragraph writing
Homework
-Explanotory paragraph with outline
-study for spelling bee!
-Catchup on other paragraphs(if needed)

What did we do?
Today we learned about how to write a good blog response (learning log) properly and the purpose of writing this.
Why?
Why do we write blog responses? We write our blog response which is similar to learning log. You can review what you learned on past time. If you don’t remember you can look through these responses again and study for the test which is very useful. Inside the blog response there are “My connection” part and “Homework” part. First my connection part will help you to know what other people in your group think so it will give you good ideas and thinking. Homework part obviously tells you what the homework was so you don’t need to get scared if you don’t know what’s for homework. You can just go on blog and look at other people’s blog response.
My connection/reflection.
I think these responses are very useful because, I can use these when I have some problem. I sometimes get lazy to write my homework on my Agenda, so I forget what the homework was. But these responses can help me to remember what the homework was and what we learned.
Homework
- You need to pick a topic and write a paragraph about it.
- Second last page for the booklist that we got yesterday.
- Geography: Land form map – South America

November 22nd / 2011
On November 22nd, 2011 we drew a heart and we wrote on the heart what we liked and disliked. We wrote all the things that we don't like on the outside of the heart and we wrote all the things we like on the in the middle of the heart. The intention of doing the heart was to give an overview for the teacher of your likes and dislikes. We also learned about finding the main sentence of a paragraph. The learning intention of doing this was to try to find out the main sentence that is describing any paragraph.

What did we do?
Today, we worked on the landforms maps about about South America.
Why?
We did this to help us develop skills to recognize landforms in maps, such as a plateaus or a isthmus. It would also hep with following directions.
My Reflections/Connections
I understood what a isthmus was and other vocabulary such as an archipelago is- a group of islands. But i still did not figure out what are lowlands near the coast is called. This would needed in the future when you travel because you might want to know an isthmus is when you travel to the Isthmus of Panama and when you have a career in mapping.
Homework
Nothing really, unless you're playing catch up.
